Being totally honest, you don’t really expect a band’s debut EP to be particularly amazing or special because the whole point is for them to grow and improve with each release. But what happens when you come across a debut that is exactly that? Well, you can expect to be pretty impressed for starters. And then you can look forward to what else the band may have to offer in the future, knowing that it’s likely to be just as good.

Cornwall four-piece Veils have only been around for a short time and yet in that short time they’ve managed to both attract significant attention and deliver something well worth listening to. Their debut EP ‘Clarity’, which is due for release in January, highlights a band that is clearly on the right track, possibly exhibiting more talent than a band that has been together for years. The five track EP is full of immense energy from the powerful opening ‘Standing Alone (Isolation)’ to the epic finale ‘Surrender (Clarity)’. Special attention should be given to vocalist Chlo Edwards who sings with such intensity, it’s hard not to feel the raw emotion. Furthermore, her lyrics are effective on top of the melodic guitar lines and frantic drum rhythms.

Veils are known for their incredible live shows and ‘Clarity’ will, without a doubt, be a success in a live setting. Their drive and fresh take on the hardcore genre will have people talking soon enough, especially with the upcoming release of ‘Clarity’. Be sure to pick up a copy in January.
